Trip Details

Have you ever topped off your glass of wine while saying “Hey, it’s good for my heart, right?”

Settling in to your favorite chair, glass in hand, at the end of long, hard day – what could be better?

How about indulging in premium wines with spectacular backdrops of sparkling bays, towering mountains and sun-drenched vineyards?

This New Zealand Wine Regions vacation package takes you on an unforgettable journey tasting through the nation’s world-renowned wine regions.

After all, wine is best paired with travel.

Auckland

People enjoying food and wine on Waiheke Island

Begin your journey in Auckland, the City of Sails. This vibrant harbor city blends rolling green hills with an iconic skyline, the perfect setting for its dynamic multicultural lifestyle. Your 4-star hotel boasts gorgeous views of the Viaduct harbor, right in the heart of Auckland. Waterfront bars and some of Auckland’s finest eateries serving up mouthwatering cuisines are right at your doorstep.

And right on Auckland’s doorstep is Waiheke Island, New Zealand’s own “Island of Wine.” Dotted with gourmet restaurants and endless vineyards surrounded by breathtaking turquoise bays, Waiheke Island is all about living the good life. You’ll visit three boutique wineries on an exclusive tour of the Island’s premier wine producers.

The wine will be flowing with tastings at each winery as each vineyard’s expert winemaker takes you through their wine-making process. You might even get to taste wines tapped straight from the barrel.

Then, board a luxury coach to Rotorua, the heart of New Zealand’s indigenous Maori culture. After enjoying a morning tea, you’ll travel through rural townships and the verdant green pastures of the Waikoto region.

Arrive at the Waitomo Glow Worm Caves. Tour these world-famous caves, marveling at the stalactites and stalagmites jutting out from the caverns. You’ll take a tranquil boat cruise across the dark Glowworm Grotto, illuminated by the twinkling blue glow of a thousand glowworms above you.

Continue on to Rotorua, where you’ll get a glimpse of New Zealand’s vital farming lifestyle at the Agrodome Farm. Watch a proper sheep-shearing and hand-feed farm animals.

You’ll then visit one of Rotorua’s most famous attractions – Te Puia  Institute. This is where New Zealand’s rich Maori culture comes to life, set among the geothermal wonders of the region.

  • Watch as Maori students hone their skills in producing magnificent Maori woodworks and weaving crafts.
  • See great eruptions of steam blasting forth from the famous Pohutu Geyser.
  • Explore and array of bubbling mud pools and steaming hot pools used for Ingo, a unique cooking style where fresh ingredients are lowered into the boiling waters in woven baskets.

End your action-packed day back in Auckland with a restful night’s sleep before heading to Napier.

Napier

As you set foot on the streets of Napier, you’ll feel as though you’ve traveled back in time. The glitz and glamor of the dirty 30’s lives on in the stunning Art Deco architecture lining the heart of the city.

Set in the splendor of Hawke’s Bay, if the scenery doesn’t make you fall in love with this region, its wine definitely will. Join a small group tour led by a passionate local as you taste different wines across three fantastic wineries. Indulge in pours of Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc paired with tasty morsels packed with flavor. Exquisite wine and food to match the temperate, sunny climate – this is North Island wine country at its best.

Now get ready for a taste of the South Island.

Nelson

From Napier you’ll fly into Nelson, the sunniest region in New Zealand. The sun-kissed vineyards of the surrounding Waimea Plains and Moutere Hills produce spectacular aromatic varieties, including Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gerwurztraminer. Freshly scented, intensely flavored Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay also call this region home.

Learn to taste wines like a professional and sample over 20 Nelson wines on an exclusive small group tour. Stop for a gourmet lunch at an award-winning vineyard restaurant, crafting culinary delights from fresh local produce.

Christchurch

Next, you’ll head to Christchurch, New Zealand’s garden city. Here historic architecture, a growing food and vibrant art scene are embraced in the majesty of the distant Southern Alps and expansive Canterbury Plains. Enjoy a free day to explore this unique destination rooted in heritage, culture and a traditional English feel. You might like to:

  • Escape to the award-winning Christchurch Botanic Gardens, a tranquil oasis of yellow daffodils, pink and purple herbaceous borders, and towering, tree-lined avenues.
  • Discover Christchurch on a double decker bus and learn about the city’s fascinating history as you tour its highlights. See gondolas flow down the Avon River in the heart of the city, spot the Christchurch Art Gallery and ride down Art Deco Regent Street.
  • Enjoy an unforgettable day out exploring the spectacular scenery as featured in the Lord of the Rings films on a 4WD tour. Immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the region’s sparkling clear lakes, glistening rivers and fresh mountain air.

Queenstown

After your Christchurch adventure you’ll jet off to Queenstown, the “Adventure Capital of the World.” You’ll spend 3 nights in a 4-star lakefront hotel, edged by Lake Wakatipu and framed by snow-capped mountains.

Enjoy a free day to experience the countless thrills Queenstown has to offer. You could try skiing, snowboarding, bungy jumping, sky diving and so much more!

If you’re looking for something a little more relaxed, prepare for an afternoon exploring award-winning wineries in the Queenstown region. Unwind with a wine tasting in an underground wine cave and indulge in nibbles from a generous cheese board.

The perfect top off to your New Zealand wine journey.
