New Zealand is split into two islands – North and South. This is your guide to an Adventure Vacation in Northern New Zealand.

When you see the breath-taking landscape and iconic mountains, the glaciers and natural waterfalls, the pristine lakes and endless wonder – you’ll know right away why New Zealanders love a good adventure. The scenery is not the only attraction for those who want to create memories like none other. They’re also world famous for exciting activities like rugby, wind surfing, jet boating, bungee jumping, glacier climbing, and much more.

Travel to New Zealand for Adventure

Adventure Vacations to New Zealand are so popular, that we’ve created an 11 day Kiwi Adventure package for the people who want to live life to the extreme!

Imagine a vacation like this:

Spend your first night in “The City of Sails,” Auckland. The North Island’s largest city presents you with a chance to explore some of the most dramatic landscapes and seascapes around. It’s regularly voted one of the best lifestyle cities in the world!

The next morning wake up to a full day of discovering Auckland. You’ll be able to be independent with your own rental car (be sure to bring a valid American Drivers License and note that New Zealanders drive on the opposite side of the road).

You’ll spend the next few days visiting new places along your drive like Rotorua, Wellington, the Waitomo Glowworm Caves or even take a Hobbitown Tour. Yep – you can visit the set of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings! Step into the Hobbit Holes (Pro Tip: Duck going through the doors) and visit the Green Dragon Inn amongst other places. Around every corner you’re sure to make memories like never before.

While on your drive you’ll see the lush countryside spotted with wildlife. Be sure to stop at Waikata farmland that Peter Jackson made famous and experience first hand the Sheep Farm Experience. (Fun Fact: There are more sheep than people in New Zealand.)

Unimaginable moments await you like stopping in Rotorua where the world famous geysers erupt from the belly of the earth. You can dip your toes into the bubbling mud pools. Then don’t miss the chance to see Maori warriors dance the Haka (a war dance that you may have seen at the beginning of a rugby match), eat traditional Maori cuisine at the Hangi Feast, and witness traditions like tattooing, singing, and dancing at the Tamaki Village. Tamaki Village is New Zealand’s most awarded cultural tourist attraction for a reason.

Next Stop: Shopping in Wellington! You will take a brief flight from Rotorua to Wellington. Then you can head over to The Golden Mile of Lambton Quay to find some of the best shopping, dining and entertainment in New Zealand.

On day 6 of your South Pacific adventure, you’ll start with a luxury ferry ride on the Kaitaki Plus across the Cook Strait to Picton on the South Island. It takes only 3 hours and has been described as `one of the most beautiful ferry rides in the world`.
